Pre-booking is required. Once we reach capacity, we’re unable to allow additional guests into the space, and we’d hate to have to turn you away at the door. Please be sure to reserve your spot in advance.
Open Play is designed for children ages 0–4. We don’t check birth certificates at the door — if you have a slightly older sibling joining a younger child and they’re able to play safely around babies and young children, we are okay with that from time to time.
Non-walking infants may attend any Open Play session, we have a separate gated area just for them. However, we also offer Infant-Only Open Play on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 11:30 AM–1:30 PM.
Each Open Play session is scheduled for 2 hours, which includes arrival and departure time. Active play will wrap up about 10 minutes before the end of your time slot so we can gently transition families out and have everyone fully exited by the session end. This allows our team to properly clean and reset the space for the next group.
River & Root is a shoe-free, socks-only space. Socks are required for all visitors, including adults. Bare feet are not permitted. Grip socks are recommended and available for purchase.
Snacks and drinks may be enjoyed in the lobby or on the porch, weather permitting. No food or drinks are permitted in the play space.
Due to the size of our space, we cannot accommodate strollers. Compact car-seat strollers (such as the Doona/EvenFlo Shyft) are welcome but must be folded once inside. (During warm weather, strollers can be left outside/in our yard)

Cancellation Policies: At River & Root, we strive to be flexible and family-friendly while also honoring the realities of our small space and staffing needs. Because we schedule staff and prepare the space based on expected attendance, we are unable to offer monetary refunds for Open Play sessions. Instead, we gladly offer credits and easy modifications.
You may modify your reservation up to 1 hour before your play block using the Modify Booking link in your confirmation email. Late modifications (within 1 hour), late cancellations, and no-shows are not eligible for credit or refund.

Modifying Your Reservation
You may modify your booking to a future Open Play session up to 1 hour before your reserved time begins.

Simply open your confirmation email, click Modify, and choose a new date that works for you.
This gives families the flexibility to adjust plans if a child wakes up sick or something unexpected comes up

Late Cancellations, No-Shows & Credits
Modifications cannot be made less than 1 hour before the start of your session.

Reservations that are not modified at least 1 hour in advance, as well as no-shows, are not eligible for credit or refund.
This is because we are unable to fill the spot on short notice, and staffing has already been confirmed for your session
