Windmill Retreats Animal Experience Safety Acknowledgement and Disclaimer

Dear Guest,

We hope you have a wonderful and memorable experience with us. Windmill Retreats is a working farm, and interaction with animals and the countryside involves risks that cannot be removed entirely. Please read the following information carefully before participating.

On the day of your experience please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled time and follow the signs for the car park. This is below Windmill House, the lane goes down to the left.

The postcode for the farm is HG3 2LT

please come down the lane with Windmill Retreats sign at the top. On a map it is Siddle lane.

Please can one person go to reception and let them know of your arrival, if no one is there buzz the intercom and someone will be with you shortly. Please do not walk around the site- other people maybe on experiences and there may be farm vehicles around who do not know you are there.

If for any reason you may be late please let us know. Likewise if you are early please send us a message and we will pop and see you.
Please only bring the people with you already booked, we cannot accommodate extra guests on the day.

Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear- we are a working farm therefore there maybe mud!

Animal Interaction

Farm animals can behave unpredictably, even when they are normally calm and friendly. Risks may include being pushed, kicked, bitten, scratched, stepped on or struck by an animal or its horns. Please approach and interact with animals only when instructed by a member of our team. Do not enter animal pens, fields or restricted areas without permission.

Following Instructions

You agree to:

Follow all instructions given by Windmill Retreats staff.
Treat the animals calmly, gently and respectfully.
Remain within designated visitor areas.
Avoid sudden movements, shouting or behaviour that may frighten the animals.
Tell a member of staff immediately if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Anyone behaving dangerously, failing to follow instructions or putting themselves, another guest or an animal at risk may be asked to stop participating and leave the experience. A refund may not be provided in these circumstances.

Animal Feed

Approved animal feed will be provided as part of your experience.Please do not bring or give the animals any additional food, treats or human food. This is essential for their health, welfare and safety.

Alcohol

Guests must not bring their own alcohol onto the farm.Where an alcoholic drink is included as part of an experience, it must be consumed responsibly. Anyone who appears intoxicated or whose behaviour may present a safety risk may be refused participation.

Farm Environment

Windmill Retreats is a working farm.

Visitors may encounter uneven ground, mud, gravel, water, gates, fencing, farm equipment and changing weather conditions.

Please wear suitable clothing and sturdy, closed-toe footwear. You are responsible for taking reasonable care when walking around the farm and for following all signs, barriers and designated routes.

Health, Allergies and Medical Conditions

Please inform us before participating if you have:

An allergy that could be affected by animals, animal feed or the farm environment.
A medical condition, injury, disability or mobility requirement that may affect your participation.
We do NOT cater for food allergies or intolerance.

If you are pregnant, immunocompromised or have concerns about whether the experience is suitable for you, please seek appropriate medical advice before attending and let our team know in advance.

Hygiene and Risk of Infection

Animals can carry microorganisms that may cause illness, even when they appear clean and healthy.You agree to:

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water after touching animals and before eating or drinking.
Avoid touching your face or placing your fingers in your mouth while in animal-contact areas.
Cover any cuts or broken skin before participating.
Only eat and drink in the designated dining areas.

Hand sanitiser is not a substitute for washing your hands with soap and water.

Children

The parent or guardian accepts responsibility for ensuring that the child follows all safety instructions. Windmill Retreats may refuse or end a child’s participation if it is considered unsafe for them, other guests or the animals.

Personal Belongings
Please take reasonable care of your clothing, phones, cameras and other belongings. Windmill Retreats cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage unless it results from our negligence or another liability that cannot legally be excluded.
Acknowledgement of RiskBy accepting below, you confirm that:

You have read and understood this document.
You understand that animal interaction and visiting a working farm involve inherent risks.
You agree to follow all instructions and safety requirements.
You have disclosed any relevant allergies, medical conditions or accessibility requirements.

You are participating voluntarily and accept the ordinary risks associated with the experience.

Windmill Retreats will take reasonable steps to provide a safe and enjoyable experience. Nothing in this document excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
